XLVet UK directors are asked to “sponsor” the leadership of the member teams. This represents the physical manifestation of giving authority (from the board) to the member teams to be "the place where it happens".
This does not mean chairing, nor acting as a substitute chair
It does mean encourgaing the member teams to help define the agenda and topics to be persuded
It does mean developing a working relationship with the chair of the member team
It does not mean appraising the Chair. (That is the job of the CEO of XLVet UK)
It does not mean doing any of the ‘heavy lifting’
It does mean asking lots of open questions to encourage debate and broaden horizons
It does not mean being the person that people turn to for ideas
It does mean contributing to the design of the training programme for Member Team Chairs and Vice-Chairs.
It does mean attending the one hour Leadership team zoom call once a month
We do not ask directors to “sponsor’ or support member teams that are not their recognised ‘discipline’ so that members have confidence in ‘working with people like me’
Total time allocated = 12 hours + 4 hours prep = 2 days pa
